Scale Modelling Has Changed
The hobby of scale modeling – creating small versions of bigger things – has grown and evolved incredibly over the past ten years, and we believe that there’s a need for a scale modeling association that reflects that change.
Modellers Without Borders and the 1-2-3 Vacuum
Recently James Morando asked several important questions related to the current trend away from the traditional 1-2-3 judging format at scale modeling shows. He noted that many clubs are experimenting with different show and judging formats, with many trying out some form of open system judging where entries are judged against a defined standard rather than being compared with other models. Open system judging is often known as “Gold/Silver/Bronze (GSB) Judging” because of the award format often used with it. James perceives that a vacuum exists when one turns away from the 1-2-3 judging format and he raises two important questions: What is the purpose of a scale modeling show and how does evaluation align with that purpose?
