The World of Plastic ModelingSeptember 17, 2025 – March 22, 2026
The Technical Museum in Brno is preparing, in collaboration with the Plastic Modelers Club of Brno, an exhibition entitled The World of Plastic Modeling. This is the largest exhibition of this hobby in Europe.
The exhibition will take visitors into the world of miniature history with maximum detail.Plastic modeling is a relatively popular hobby among the male population. Ideally, it combines manual dexterity, artistic sense, patience, and interest in history, especially the history of technology.
The Czech Republic is among the great powers when it comes to the number of companies producing plastic models and various accessories for them. At the exhibition, you will learn what a plastic model actually is, what this hobby involves, and where the study of model prototypes will lead us. You will see the development of kits, but especially a large number of models of aircraft, military and civilian technology, cars, ships, submarines, figures, and dioramas, in scales of 1:350, 1:144, 1:72, 1:48, 1:35, 1:32.1:24, 1:20 and others, all in top quality from leading Czech-Slovak modelers.
You will see detailed representations of interiors and the execution of realistic surfaces of real technology translated into scaled-down models. The building processes will demonstrate how the final model is created. Among other things, you will be able to see, for example, a 1:72 war submarine – a model 1.3 m long – and a demonstration of one type of aircraft in scales of 1:144 – 1:24. You will be able to compare how technology changed over different periods.
The exhibition will also mention the beginnings of plastic model production in Czechoslovakia, the process of preparation and production of plastic kits. We will show you the gradual creation of a model from opening the box to its placement in a display case. You will also get insight into the issue of modeling competitions, as they are also an integral part of the world of plastic modeling. The modeling population is aging, as the younger generation is primarily interested in the virtual world. We believe that organizing an exhibition with the theme of plastic modeling could attract more young enthusiasts for this hobby.
