I’ve had my head in the sand due to PaxCon and missed the fray regarding PatCon (Massachusetts) and judges not only picking up models, but when called out, ignored and dismissed the modeller. I’m catching up on my podcasts and just heard The Modeling Insanity Podcast ep 38. I agree 100% with Riv.

Modellers Without Borders has a guiding principle of respect, “All creative works are treated with care, evaluated holistically, and displayed with honor.” In other words, we consider it disrespectful to both the Modeller and their model when it is touched inappropriately by judges. There are more principles.

We founded MWB to offer an organization to Modellers that not only includes all Modellers who share similar values but follows principles that apply not just to the organization but to those same Modellers.

I could not agree more. Well said and happy to know that MWB takes a stand on integrity where IPMS has failed.

I have never seen a Canadian judge at an IPMS event touch a model. We have had a constant problem with US judges touching and picking up other peoples work.
I was judging at an IPMS Vancouver event and actually had to yell ata judge from Seattle picking up a model.
When the Nats were held in Seattle several years ago I saw judges break at least 4 peoples models and just walk away.
      Infuriating.

My club has run a small, non-IPMs affiliated show in Southern Ontario since 1996. It has always been a rule that we don’t touch any models. If something had to be moved, we’d do our best to contact the owner of the entry and if that failed, we would leave it and make notes.
    Respect is key.

IPMS NEEDS to put something out about picking up the models! I have been in the situation that a JUDGE picked up MY model and i called them out on it. They did put it down but I believe that this caused my model to be judged differently. I dont like touching my own models that much let alone let SOMEONE else touching my models. This is a complete disrespect towards the model and the modelers work. DO NOT TOUCH THE MODELS!
