Modelfiesta 44 was held at the New Braunfels, TX Civic Convention Center on Saturday, January, 3. Modellers Without Borders (MWB) partnered with Alamo Squadron of San Antonio to host this highly successful event. It was the first local show to be affliated with MWB. 173 contestants entered 504 contest models. In addition, 160 display-only models were exhibited.
Jim Rogers’ 1983 Husqvarna 430 XC motorcycle was selected as Best of Show. MWB’s WoW award was given to Jeff Elhart for his VW Pickup and 5th wheel.

500 non-contestants visited the contest and enjoyed shopping in the Vendor Room, which was populated by 122 vendor tables. Attendees came from as far away as California, Nevada, Louisiana, and Maryland. Tim Holland, President of Modellers Without Borders, attended this inaugural event and spoke briefly at the show’s award ceremony. He noted that Modelfiesta embodies the principles of MWB: community, respect, open system judging, and feedback for skill improvement. Melody Guptil of Help Heal Veterans, an MWB partner, was on hand to collect about 200 models donated to aid veteran rehabilitation. Alamo Squadron and Modellers Without Borders wish to thank everyone who attended for making the event so enjoyable.
