M4A3 Sherman – 188

Evaluation
Model nr: 1
Class: Dioramas
Skill: Advanced

Type: Injection Moulded
Manufacturer: Tamiya
Scale: 1/35
Description: I started with the old Tamiya M4A3, added weld seams to the hull top, textured the turret sides with Tamiya thick glue, added aftermarket metal barrel. I used aftermarket resin to fill in the void above the tracks. From my spares box a Dragon .50 cal, co-ax .30 cal a brass tube, and MV lights. Equipment a mix of Tamiya and aftermarket. I used the kit tracks. Crew figures were a mix of Dragon/Tamiya. I used two Hornet American Tankers heads for the Commander and Loader. Driver was straight out of the box. Also used was an old Italeri Damaged Church. Which I modified the walls into this configuration. I used plastic card to fill in the back side which was left open. French Citizen painting the cross of the freedom fighters on the wall was an aftermarket kit. Painted with Tamiya OD and Tamiya Tire Black. Weathering was done with an oil wash. Two types of thinned “Dust” heavy on the bottom and running gear. A more spotted “Dirt” on the upper hull to reflect that thrown up from other vehicles. For the rubber tracks I used pastels on the chevrons. My inspiration for the weathering came from photos.

My vision for this was the liberation of France during Operation Cobra, driving through one of the French towns. Showing the damage that was part of the air campaign to drive the Germans out of France.

Outstanding work Tom! Your Sherman and its weathering look very realistic and appropriate for its setting. Your figure painting is also very good.
