Description: The 747 is one of the most iconic and recognizable airliners to have flown, and having lived in the Seattle area and walked the 747 factory line, I knew I wanted to build a detailed (albeit older version) of the 747s I had the pleasure of watching come to life at Paine Field. Like the TWA L-1011 in this submission, I enjoyed the “less is more” and form-adaptive principals of the twin stripe scheme and found it complimented the 747 exceptionally well.
I added additional fine details with LACI’s landing flap kit for the Hasegawa 747-200 kit. If I was under the impression the L-1011 flaps were fragile, the resin flaps on the 747 kit are extremely thin and breakable and proved to be a challenge to install and keep intact during construction and painting. The HF antennas on the wingtips also proved to be very breakable, and scratch-building replacements saved a key piece of the classic 747 design.
Kit Information: Hasegawa 1:200 Boeing 747-200. Flaps and slats by LACI. Finished in Tamiya white primer, Alclad II Airframe Aluminum, Hi Shine Aluminum, Polished aluminum, and Mr. Paint Boeing 707 Gray. Main livery decals by unknown manufacturer, received second hand. Detail, door, and window decals by 26Decals.
