Description: Built from parts in the box plus: replaced conning tower grab irons with fine wire, thinned the railing on the ‘wintergarden’, added shoulder bracing on the AA gun with stretched sprue, added bracing/padding to the main deck gun with fine wire, muzzle cap is a bit of super glue and it’s lanyard is very fine wire, the antennas/cable cutters are a strand of my daughter’s hair and the insulators are tiny bits of super glue. Model Master black is the base coat with an airbrushed ‘cloud’ of U.S. Army Helo Drab, post shaded with black watercolor. The Allied ‘dazzle scheme’ was inspired because I wanted to build a Uboat but didn’t want to represent any particular vessel. The stripe pattern wasn’t copied from any particular ship, but rather masked from individual stripes of tape until I liked the pattern. I then airbrushed Model Master flat gull gray followed by dry brushing with U.S. Army Helo Drab. Rime and rust effects are white, burnt sienna and burnt umber water colors. The deck is dry brushed with Tamiya red brown, the deck gun and periscopes dry brushed with Model Master Euro I gray. AA gun highlighted with pencil graphite, exhaust stains with black pastel chalk. The flag is a decal wrapped around a piece of aluminum foil and given a thin wash of white watercolor.
