Description: This vignette captures the moment the Batman approaches the Penguin after a chase, as seen from the movie The Batman. Parts of the villain’s car lay strewn across the pavement as the Dark Knight approaches. The build grew from the Batmobile itself. The choices made in paints and weathering on the model required some additional context for it to feel appropriate. I opted to finish this vignette “dry for wet” to maintain scale.
The challenge of the car, an unmodified Batmobile kit, was 2 fold:
Utilize multiple near blacks (NATO, graphite, Ueno) to be as close to actual car as possible, without it just reading as a “plain black car”.
Bring out the immense detail in the engine, without modification.
The engine it self has some incredibly subtle molding and I want to make all of that apparent with finish choices. Aluminum gloss black, chrome, metallic black were used to create distinct layers, accurate to my reference photos. The weathering of the car is motivated by a chase through boxes, concrete, road equipment, and traffic. Having gone off-road briefly and executing a last minute jump through fire. Oils, mud effects, acrylic paint, pencils were used for multiple finishes. Debris and grime coat the vehicle except for the area cleared by overactive wipers. The base is corkboard, layered to with multiple washes and paints to create a grimy highway. Batman himself is just about to walk toward his prey gathering himself after a brutal few moments. The figure is a 51mm resin figure. which was custom printed at this scale. His armor coloration plays at subtle accuracy. There are some silver components on his braces I omitted, so your eye is drawn to the face and to the vehicle.
